Our design studio was hired to overhaul an AI dietitian app that had struggled to attract users. Initially focused on providing healthy recipes based on user preferences, the app failed to engage its audience. We shifted the app’s value proposition from recipes to food tracking, real-time feedback on nutrition, and personalized tips, aiming to improve user engagement and retention.
The original app centered around offering personalized healthy recipes. However, users found this approach too passive, with limited interaction and minimal long-term appeal. The challenge was to pivot to a model that would engage users more actively and keep them coming back. We needed to move from a one-time-use recipe app to a dynamic tool that would help users track their food intake and make healthier choices over time.
Product redesign
We redefined the app’s core functionality, turning it into an AI-powered dietitian focused on food tracking. The new app allows users to log their meals and automatically tracks fats, proteins, carbs, and other macronutrients. It then provides immediate feedback on whether the nutritional balance is healthy.
The app’s AI component was enhanced to give personalized advice, such as when to reduce salt or eat more of certain nutrients, based on the user’s dietary habits. This real-time feedback kept users more engaged, offering actionable tips that made the app feel like a daily companion rather than just a static resource.
User Engagement
To further boost retention, we integrated daily tips, reminders, and motivational feedback. Instead of focusing solely on meal ideas, the app now gives users practical guidance on how to balance their diets day by day, making the experience more interactive and valuable.
We have also worked on the marketing materials to help Eatwise AI launch the product: landing pages, ads, and other supporting collateral.
By shifting the app’s focus from recipes to food tracking and personalized nutrition advice, we created a more engaging and practical tool. The redesign is set to drive better user retention and satisfaction, offering continuous value through real-time feedback and helpful tips, ensuring users stay invested in their health journey.
